Summer Milkyway at Assateague Island National Seashore, MD

Here the Summer Milkyway is shown setting over the bay at Assateague Island National Seashore, MD while I am standing on the front deck of a historic Ferry Landing house. The southern tip of Assateague Island offers some of the darkest skies on the East Coast. The two light domes seen in the above photo are from the small town of Chincoteague located 30 miles to the south. These light domes are not visible to the naked eye.
