IC 443

IC 443 - Supernova Remnant in Gemini

IC 443, which is also known as the Jellyfish nebula, is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Gemini. The combined magnitude of the nebula is +3.7 and it is located near the bright star Eta Geminorum. The supernova that formed this nebula occurred approximately 30,000 years ago, and also created the neutron star CXOU J061705.3+222127. This object is located approximately 5,000 light years from Earth.
